Hi everyone welcome back to my blog! For my new readers welcome and sorry for my humble and lowkey blog 🙏🏻
We're only 12 days left to Syawal and please, use these 12 days as an oppurtunity to do good deeds and get rewards in this Holy month ✨
I am one day late for my weekly post but nevermind! I did a poll (again) on my Instagram Story and I brought the Sunscreen topic.
The questions were :
"Do you use sunscreen?"
"Do you think sunscreen is important?"
"What do you think a sunscreen can do?"
Guess what? For the first question, there were more than a half percent of respondents answered "NO, I DONT WEAR SUNSCREEN".
But from those people too, they did agree that applying sunscreen is crucial in our daily skincare routine. Not just the face, but the whole exposed parts of our bodies!
WHAT IS A SUNSCREEN/SUNBLOCK?
Sunscreen or sunblock is actualy a cream or lotion that contains active ingredients to protect our skin by blocking and bounce back, absorb and degrade the UVA and UVB.

UVA VS UVB
UVA is a UV ray with longer wavelength compared to UVB, a shorter one. When a ray has shorter wavelength such as UVB, it means that it can only penetrate and affect the superficial part of the epidermis. When flipping the page. we have UVA with longer wavelength to penetrate deeper into our dermis!
UVA's role in penetrating the dermis layer of the skin makes it affect the aging process of our skin and causes premature aging if we don't apply any protection on top of our skin. Worse, the penetration could cause a genetic defect and mutation that could further leads to skin cancer.
On the other hand, we have the "B" in the UVB that refers to "burning" or "sunburn". Exposing skins on direct sunlight without protection can cause sunburn that then being the main role in stimulation and development of melanoma, the one of the most dangerous type of cancer.
Not just that, these UV rays can also affect the eyes and lead to cataract and eyelid cancer.
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SUNBLOCK AND SUNSCREEN?
We can use both terms but not suggested to use sunblock because from what I've seen on Maisarah Mahmud's video on Youtube, sunblock is no longer valid to be used because we cannot actually 100% block the bad rays away from our skin. This is due to the not much difference in sun protection factor (SPF) effect of blocking UV rays from our skin with increasing of its value and the higher the SPF it won't actually completely block all of the UV rays.

So, it's a sunscreen. But both are correct but sunblock is not suggested.
CAN MY SKIN TYPE/CONDITION USE SUNSCREEN?
All skin types can and need to use sunscreen! It depends on your skin condition and concern too. If you have a sensitive and prone to heat-activated skin, mind to avoid chemical sunscreen that used to contain alcohol (for better absorption) because it might cause irritation and heating of your skin due to the absorption and degrading process on your skin. Scroll once to see what's a chemical sunscreen.
HOW MANY TYPES OF SUNSCREENS ARE THERE?
Sunscreens are divided into 2 types based on their ingredients.
• MINERAL SUNSCREEN
A sunscreen which contains mineral elements such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. Mineral sunscreen can also be called Physical Sunblock due to its nature of blocking UV rays and bounces back the rays from getting penetrated inside our skin by creating a physical barrier on top of our skin.
This type of sunscreen can be used by all skin types and not much irritate sensitive skin or give a real bad heating on people that are prone to heat-activated skin.
Plus, you can right away go outdoor after applying it without having to wait for the sunscreen to be absorbed. It is a waterproof sunscreen too.
The only dark sides of this sunscreen are it is thick in its texture so it will be a bit heavy if you were to apply a layer of makeup after that. And for darker complexion of skin, you might get a greyish colour of skin after applying it so, we need to take some time to make the greyish tone to fade away.
• CHEMICAL SUNSCREEN
It is called chemical sunscreen due to the ingredients such as Oxybenzone, Octinoxate, Octisalate and Avobenzone that absorb the UV rays and chemically reacted to it and causes heating on your skin to then scatter the UV rays. Regarding the heating effect, it is not suitable for people that are prone to heat-activated skin because it will irritate them
Same goes for people with sensitive skin, chemical sunscreen usually contains alcohol to make it absorbed well in the skin and this won't suit you guys because alchohol is quite dangerous and can cause a bad irritation on your skin.
Bright side showing it has a thinnner texture compared to the Mineral Sunscreen but you need to wait for 30 minutes before going out because it needs to be absorbed properly into our skin first!

WHEN TO WEAR SUNSCREEN?
EVERYDAY. EVERYTIME YOU ARE EXPOSED TO THE SUNLIGHT. EVERY IN THE DAYLIGHT. Don't ever think that you are in a building (home, office, coffee shop...) you don't need a sunscreen!
The Sun is basically a spotlight in the day time and UV rays are dancing out there and they can break (read: penetrate) your windows too. So, they are also inside your buildings!
In this MCO moment, you need to wear sunscreen to protect your skin barrier from being damaged and you don't wanna have wrinkles and fine lines in your 20s, don't you?
Apply sunscreen for every 2 hours to keep the effect of protection in optimum level without need to wash off the previous layer.
Sunscreen is suggested to wear in this step
Oil cleansing > Water-Based cleansing > Toner > Essence/Serum > Moisturiser > Sunscreen

This is to make sure the best efficacy of the protection from the UV rays by the sunscreen as the outermost layer of the skin products.
CAN I REMOVE SUNSCREEN USING ONLY WATER OR CLEANSING FOAM?
For better cleansing, because of the waterproof characteristic and wax texture of the sunscreen, it is better to use a makeup remover, micellar water or the best choice with an oil cleanser. Oil-based cleanser can remove sunscreen, waterproof materials, excess oil and also clogged pores as well as whiteheads and blackheads.
UV rays are enemies to our skin and we need to take precautions because
PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN TO CURE.
Wear sunscreen to show how much you love yourself!
Get it from the drugstores or any trusted brands out there and get ready to have a youthful and healthy skin!
